It sounds heavy, but it's actually a light-hearted, satirical look at the way unwanted and/or unexpected pregnancies were handled by these two shows.
This is the result of interviews with two women who are former prostitutes.
Making the Harm Visible: Global Sexual Exploitation of Women and Girls, Speaking Out and Providing Services. This anthology is no longer available online; it was originally published by the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women and is only available in hard copy now. Did you know I was the second fastest typist in the nation in 1998? That's right, baby. I typed 126 wpm for the Fastest Typist in the Nation Contest. We won't discuss the fact that the winner only beat me by one word--or the fact that I failed to place in 2000 with a score of 122 wpm.
I was honored to have been invited as a speaker to The New York Browning Society in the fall of 1997, to elaborate on a paper I'd written as an undergraduate at Temple University. This was actually a paying gig (my "honorarium" was $100) but naturally the prestige was more important here, not to mention the thrill (and horror) of researching my topic, preparing a speech, and fielding questions from some keen Browning scholars. This speech dealt with a theory I'd proposed; namely, that a particular poem by Robert Browning (An Epistle Containing the Strange Medical Experience of Karshish, The Arab Physician) dealing with Lazarus was actually a form of midrash, a Jewish form of biblical interpretation.
Check out the whole JFK Jr. thing from the anarchist point of view (and, incidentally, mine). If everyone thought this way, I might be less of a misanthrope. |
